About The Job The incumbent will plan and organize routine and non‑routine research and development activities concerning the chemical, biological, and physical nature of food. These activities evaluate and improve the quality of existing products and processes and develop new products and processes by meeting key sensory attributes. The incumbent will plan, organize, and complete research and development projects of modest scope, selecting appropriate methods and assisting in experiment design. Interface frequently with internal departments (Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering) and support multiple product categories. Prepare prototypes and line‑extension products using a research lab or pilot plant. Work independently and with teams – both R&D peers and cross‑functional partners – to develop technical solutions of moderate scope. Order and ship materials/samples for prototypes, selecting and evaluating raw materials. Maintain the R&D kitchen with accurate, up‑to‑date records and laboratory notebooks. Design and execute storage studies, including product and package performance under various conditions. Operate and maintain research lab equipment, and interface with outside labs, universities, ingredient suppliers, and equipment vendors as needed. Ideal Candidate Qualifications Education: A bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Food Science, or a related field. Preferred Education: HACCP training. Preferred Experience: Five or more years of product development experience. Must be 18 years or older. Valid, current driver’s license. Knowledge of food safety procedures and protocols. Competencies and Skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross‑functional teams. Physical Demands Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer. Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment Office and laboratory environment. Wear suitable personal protective equipment.
